It’s very simple! If there is a marathon that is long and challenging and a participant is held back from starting the race for a ridiculous amount of time before they can start. And, then they come in last and you say, “why didn’t you do well in the race?” and also tell them “you won’t benefit from the first, second, and third place winner’s rewards, such as prize money, endorsements, recognition, validation and self-worth, to name a few, wouldn’t you think this was inequitable? Life is changed forever in a continuum of perpetuity on both ends. Imagine that scenario happening for centuries in every facet of life, you can’t! But you can level the playing field! Isn’t that what Christianity is all about, helping people move forward.
As a side note: the US was the last modern and Democratic countries to abolish slavery, allow women to vote, allow interracial marriage, Institute civil rights (although questionable under these circumstances), recognize gay marriage (there are dozens of countries that allow gay marriage), etc. Some Americans are stuck in the past and push a false narrative! Isn’t that what Christianity is professing: empathy, charity, compassion, and justice, to name a few. Especially all those who America took advantage of: Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos of varying ethnicities, woman, and the poor. Many of us suffered some of those injustices. Restitution comes in many forms. Government assistance for college was an opportunity for many toward advancement, to name one. Consider yourself fortunate and blessed if you have been given an equal playing field!
